Everybody raves at length about the driving sequences and the copious violence in Drive, but rarely discussed is the very human element at the center of it all. Most of that talk goes in the way of the burgeoning romance between Driver and Irene, but I think his relationship with Benicio is where his compassion and humanity was really allowed to shine.
