Odd Future - “Sandwitches”

I’m really trying not to add to the breathless Odd Future hype, but Tyler is a really gifted performer and it shows here.

Before I force myself to stop talking about Odd Future (and Tyler, the Creator in particular), I have to say that this is the most punk-as-fuck performance I’ve seen on network television since Fear played Saturday Night Live (yes, I’m old!). Rapping in ski-masks! About goading children on to murder other children! And cannibalism! And waking-and-baking! Over tubas! And getting Felicia Day to chant along to the hook! I think it would be best for me to quote an acquaintance here: “I’m all about love and progression, but there is no substitute for dumbass teenage anarchy.”

I remember writing a short story a year or so ago about this really dark, seedy urban neighborhood overrun by dozens of knife-wielding, gun-toting, generally terrifying preteens. It sort of reminds me of the feeling that the members of Odd Future are trying to evoke with their music.
